Home-Start Butser is a charity that supports local families with young children who are experiencing difficulties, in order to give them the best possible start in life. Problems experienced by families are wide-ranging and include physical or mental health issues including post-natal depression; multiple births, geographical or social isolation; and any difficulties that might endanger the family or the children. Local volunteers with parenting experience are recruited and trained to support families who have at least one child under 5 years old. They visit families weekly for a minimum of 2 hours offering them practical and emotional support. We have over 50 volunteers and support about 85 families / 180 children each year. We also run 2 weekly support groups for families; one in Petersfield and the other in Horndean. Whilst we receive some funding from Hampshire County Council, we rely very heavily on local fund-raising and grants from both individuals and local groups. With increasing demands for our service, we would be grateful to collaborate with other groups. If you wish to collaborate with us or obtain more information on the scheme please contact Home-Start Butser, Winton House, 18 High Street, Petersfield. Tel: 01730 233755. |
